1–31 Aug
Enjoy a slice of Ballarat this August with the return of Ballarat’s Best Pie. From flaky crusts to mouth-watering fillings, there’s bound to be a pie to satisfy your tastebuds.
The Market Hotel’s chimney stack pie is classic country pub comfort with a twist.
Packed with tender Waubra Wagyu beef, chunky local king brown local mushrooms, smoky bacon and a hearty splash of Pyrenees red wine, it’s slow‑cooked until rich and full of flavour.
The whole thing is topped with a golden pastry lid and finished with a lamb marrow bone rising through the centre like a chimney, letting the steam escape and giving the pie its name.

"Back when The Market Hotel overlooked the old Ballarat saleyards, the place was packed with thirsty drovers, cheeky stockmen and the occasional runaway cow. When the pub went up in flames, locals swore the only thing left standing – its stubborn old chimney – stayed upright just to keep watch over the livestock across the road. That legend inspired our chimney stack pie."
