Enjoy a slice of Ballarat this August with the return of Ballarat’s Best Pie competition.
Take your pick from more than 35 savoury and sweet pies at some of the city’s top cafes, restaurants and bakeries.
On the menu at The Red Lion is the drunken pork pie with spiced beetroot chutney.
Think slow-cooked pork in Daylesford Cider Vintage Dry with Spring Creek Organics carrots and Kauker Organic apples in a homemade shortcrust pastry.
"I moved to Ballarat to have an expansive garden and one of my goals is to grow apples to make cider," chef Jonathan Warren said.
"The trees are not quite producing yet so I take advantage of local cider from Daylesford.
"And during the COVID lockdowns, I found work on a local farm – Spring Creek Organics in Navigators –so this is a great opportunity to use their produce."
Vote and win!
For your chance to win a luxury Ballarat weekend escape for two valued at over $3000, cast your vote for the People’s Choice Pie.
The pie with the most votes will be crowned the winner of this new category in early September.
