'Ring the bell watchman, here comes the train' was the cry 150 years ago as the train carrying the Governor, Sir George Bowen pulled into the station at Avoca on the 20th October 1876.
This October, Avoca Community Arts and Gardens will acknowledge this significant date in the town's history at the Avoca Railway station.
Students from the district's Primary Schools will join in the celebrations at the station and there will be a display of their rail themed murals on the platform. Official celebrations will also include the unveiling of station signs for the Avoca and Homebush stations as part of the Pyrenees Heritage Rail Trail project and the history room and entrance garden at the station will be named. A follow up celebration and video presentation will be held in conjunction with the Avoca Art Show Awards Night at the Avoca Town Hall.
