This series is hosted by Dr Phil Roberts OAM with guest speaker Paula Nicholson

The Ballarat Arts Foundation (BAF) has been supporting the emerging artists of Ballarat for 25 years. The Foundation is completely community funded and supports artists from any genre, with an alumni group numbering over 500 artists who have lived, worked or studied locally. This talk will examine the work of the Foundation, the achievements of its alumni, what the support of BAF and the wider community means to an emerging artist.

Paula Nicholson has always had a keen interest in performing arts. She studied singing, piano and music theory throughout her education, has been involved in musical theatre and has performed with bands and in duos.

After obtaining a degree in science, her career took her into customer service management and human resources. Through voluntary community based activity, she gained extensive experience in fundraising, event management and community engagement. She enjoys using her skills to contribute to the local community as a member of various boards and committees of not-for-profit organisations.

Paula will be joined by alumni of the Arts Foundation in this the 25th anniversary year of the organization to examine the impact of this community funded body as it supports emerging artists with a connection to Ballarat and in turn enriches the wider community.

Acknowledgement of Country

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities. These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years. As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
