His name is etched into Australian folklore. The outlaw bushranger, his gang and that iconic suit of armour, but who was Ned Kelly? A celebrated anti-hero or simply a cold-blooded killer?

Australians have long romanticised those who challenge power, and that rebellious spirit is deeply woven into Ballarat's identity. It's fitting, then, that Her Majesty's Theatre Ballarat, built during Kelly's lifetime, hosts a revival of his story.

Victorian Opera breathes fresh life into a neglected work of Australian theatre with Reg Livermore's Ned Kelly: The Musical. Originally produced in the late 1970s, the musical charts the life and times of Australia's most notorious bandit.

Directed by Stuart Maunder and conducted by Simon Holt, the new production is presented exclusively at Her Majesty's Theatre Ballarat, as part of Victorian Opera's ongoing commitment to the region.

Plan a weekend getaway and experience the many delights that Ballarat has to offer and experience an unforgettable piece of Australian theatre, starring the legend himself, Reg Livermore, in a special cameo.

Note: This performance will be sung in English.

Acknowledgement of Country

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities. These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years. As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
