Locals and visitors alike will be well entertained by the City of Ballarat Municipal Brass Band as they perform in Ballarat's CBD during Ballarat Heritage Festival.

The City of Ballarat Municipal Brass Band was formed in November 1900 and has a rich 121-year history. It was previously known as Bulch’s Model Brass Band from 1887 to 1900.

The band currently has a junior training band with more than 30 members. The City of Ballarat Brass Band has been providing music and entertainment to the citizens of Ballarat for over 100 years – Band concerts at the Gardens or in the lower part of Sturt Street, Parades, Church Fairs, Band Contests, ANZAC Day ceremonies, etc.

Thousands of musicians have played in the band and scores of famous musical directors (Bandmasters) have directed its fortunes. The Band plays all types of music from the classics to jazz and popular music of the day, and of course, the foot-tapping music that is heard in Street Parades. Come and enjoy one of their concerts.

Do as the citizens of Ballarat have been doing for over a hundred years, rug up and come enjoy the music.

Acknowledgement of Country

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities. These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years. As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.

©️ 2025 Visit Ballarat. This initiative is funded by the City of Ballarat and Tourism Midwest Victoria.
