Join in for a conversation between art historian Dr Chris McAuliffe and artist Ken Searle about the monumental 1998 painting, Ballarat and its powerful encapsulation of the city.
In 1998, Federation University commissioned Ken Searle to paint Ballarat. He spent several months, at his preferred vantage point of Black Hill, capturing what he described as the beating heart of the city.
This event augments the presentation of Ken's painting at the Eureka Centre alongside an interactive digital representation of the work to allow for community-generated interpretation. Both the exhibition and talk are presented as part of the ARC Linkage project, Dialogue with Difficult Objects: Mediating Controversy in Museums.
