Forget poetic. This is Aussie culture chewed up and spewed onto the streets.
Ocker is a roving circus spectacle from Na Djinang Circus that tears through public spaces on a portable railway track built in real time. This modern-day hunting party weaves through crowds, laying track wherever the chase leads. Down laneways, through parks and across city streets, the troupe pursues something always just out of reach.
Driven by relentless determination, the performers pull audiences into the action as Ballarat transforms into a playground of strange encounters, daring acrobatics and absurd feats of endurance. Improvised moments constantly derail the hunt as the troupe navigates crowds, obstacles and their own terrible ideas, creating a performance that is different every time.
Swept up in the chaos, audiences become part of the adventure. Ocker waits for nobody. Keeping up is entirely your responsibility.
Presented by Na Djinang Circus, the work reflects the company's vision for a bold future of Blak circus on unceded Indigenous lands. Drawing on Indigenous cultural knowledge and contemporary circus practice, Na Djinang creates work that shares unique perspectives while pushing the form in new directions.
