The Celebration of SAORI Exhibition returns to Clunes in 2025 - bigger, brighter, and more creatively vibrant than ever. This unique showcase of creative Japanese weaving will be on display in the historic Central Victorian township of Clunes, from Saturday 7th to Sunday 22nd June 2025.

The Celebration of SAORI Exhibition will showcase the work of over 30 artists from across Australia, each weaving their own story in a spectacular display of creativity, colour, and texture. This exhibition features SAORI weaving – a freestyle Japanese textile art that embraces self-expression, mindfulness and innovation over patterns and repetition.

With over 100 woven artworks on display, this is the largest SAORI exhibition held in Australia. Visitors can experience this expressive, lesser-known art form, meet the artists, and even try SAORI weaving themselves. Many works will be available for purchase.

"SAORI weaving is like a moving meditation – you just happen to be creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind cloth as you go. Each piece holds a story, a captured moment in time at the loom," said Simmons.

Please see the website for the exhibition highlights and free events.

Acknowledgement of Country

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities. These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years. As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
