Unlock Ballarat’s secrets with the Roam Discovery Trail

Ballarat's hidden stories and surprising secrets are everywhere you look – and your phone knows how to uncover them!

Introducing Victoria's Roam Discovery Trail — a new collection of interactive walking trails connecting some of the Goldfields region's most fascinating destinations.

The Ballarat section of the trail covers about 750m of historic Lydiard Street, with 10 creative wayfinding markers dotting the route from The Goods Shed through to Dana Street.

Scan the QR codes along the way to unlock immersive storytelling, augmented reality and unexpected encounters with the city's past.

Step aboard Ballarat's original steam locomotive, discover the fortunes and rivalries forged during the gold rush, and encounter tales of ghosts, legends and larger-than-life characters.

We recommend allowing around 45 minutes to fully experience the Ballarat section and its interactive content.

The world-class Roam Discovery Trail also extends to Hepburn Springs, Bendigo, Castlemaine, Bridgewater and Hanging Rock.

Download the app via Apple's App Store (coming soon!) or Google Play and start exploring!

Acknowledgement of Country

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities. These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years. As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
