Babae presents an ever-evolving seasonal menu, crafted with creativity and a deep respect for place, produce, flavour and technique—celebrating the best of contemporary Australian cuisine.

With just 26 seats, Babae offers an intimate fine dining experience where the menu proudly champions regional growers and producers, including an abundance of ingredients from our own garden.

Culinary Director and Executive Chef Tim Foster, formerly co-owner of the acclaimed Source Dining in Kyneton—which held a Chef's Hat for nine consecutive years in The Age Good Food Guide—leads the kitchen with passion and expertise.

Provenance is at the heart of everything they do. Their menu is thoughtfully developed in close partnership with farmers, breeders, and providores from the Goldfields region and beyond, ensuring every ingredient is sustainably sourced and of the highest quality.

They embrace the best of each season, sourcing from local producers and their kitchen farm's garden. This commitment to seasonality allows them to create menus that anticipate the coming harvest, working hand-in-hand with their producers to deliver unique and memorable dishes.

Babae offers a seasonally inspired degustation menu for all guests: a four-course lunch on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and a seven-course dinner on Friday and Saturday.

Located within Hotel Vera Ballarat, Babae has proudly held one Chef's Hat from The Age Good Food Guide since 2025.

Acknowledgement of Country

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities. These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years. As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
