Wendouree Centre for the Performing Arts
This stunning proscenium arched concert hall boasts an acoustically superior auditorium, with 857 seats configured to allow unrestricted views from each one.
With copious stage and wing space, the centre is suitable for a huge range of functions. Wide enough to accommodate a symphony orchestra, the stage can be narrowed enough to make the solo performer feel comfortable, via a unique pivot proscenium that opens and closes without affecting audience sightlines. Beyond the wings on stage right is a street level loading dock for effortless stage loading.
Below the stage, pivoting walled dressing rooms convert from single open room into two, three or four smaller rooms in minutes. Dressing rooms to either side of the stage is through an unhindered passageway via stairs at either end.
Two spacious foyers make venue access to the venue easy. The larger Masterfoods Foyer has a fully equipped plating kitchen, licensed bar and box office and can catering for up to 120 people, seated, for a three-course meal.
“Our large contingent of metropolitan visitors had no idea the Ballarat could boast such a facility and they were rapt in the wide range of possibilities of use it will create.”
- Brian Nunn, Chairman, Ballarat Sports Museum and Hall of Fame.
“The facilities of the Centre are superb.”
- Fr Peter Yeats, Ministry Development Officer, Diocese of Ballarat
“I am impressed by this centre’s founding principle of passive cooling adopted by the ancient Babylonians, one of the first civilisations to utilise this technique. … your foresight in the construction of a well planned building that positively assists our reduction in energy consumption. This building acts as a prime example of what can be achieved ...”
- Professor David de Kretser, AC, Governor of Victoria
