Spherophyte – public art installation

Spherophyte is a kinetic sculpture created to be simultaneously mesmerising and energetic, contemplative and euphoric and above all to generate a sense of captivating wonder. Towering at 6.5m tall, with 48 moving arms in nine groups it is a must-see when experiencing Ballarat’s Summer of Fun.

Designed and installed by artist Alex Sanson from Metaform, he states “I love creating sculpture with a hypnotic motion that tries to induce a sense of joy and engagement with the world around us. I’m very excited to install Spherophyte in central Ballarat and hope that it may elicit moments of peacefulness, delight and imagination”.
