Immerse yourself in a curious experience held at an urban apiary in the centre of Ballarat – Backyard Beekeeping Ballarat.
Designed to provide a glimpse into the secret life of bees, this urban farm is owned by local beekeepers Amanda and Scott who will take you on a hands-on journey through a working honey bee hive – providing expert commentary on the machinations of a honey bee colony.
Sport your own protective gear, hold a honey frame full of bees, taste warm fresh honey straight from the hive, observe and understand bee behaviours and assigned colony roles, and test your own skills as a honey sommelier. Round off your session with some fresh honey from the hive and a taste of unique honey flavours in a curated honey and mead tasting session. You’ll even be able to take home a jar of your favourite Ballarat Wild Bush Honey variety.
Backyard Beekeeping Ballarat is located in beautiful tree-lined Errard Street, their urban farm boasts a Mediterranean inspired food forest. The session will also feature an exploration of their fascinating urban farming environment.
This event is part of new series of hands-on experiences that celebrate what Ballarat is made of. Join artisan producers to learn more about what is made and grown in the region. Find a workshop that feeds your curiosity now at madeofballarat.com.
