Come and enjoy the sounds of the The Sturt Brass Quintet, a new group formed by Ballarat multi-instrumentalist and conductor Hugh McKelvey, made up of the best brass players in the City.
Tuba – Hugh McKelvey has toured the USA and Europe. He is principal trombone with the Heidelberg Symphony, and for many years conducted the Ballarat Choral Society and Ballarat Symphony.
Trumpet – Holly de Jong studied classical music at the Conservatorium of Music, and later completed a Master of Music at the University of Melbourne as well. Over the years she has played trumpet in several bands.
Trumpet – Andrew Power is originally from Melbourne. He is now a Ballarat based trumpet player and graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts. Andrew teaches brass at Ballarat Clarendon College, and St Patrick’s College, and is a freelance musician, conductor and educator.
Horn- William Stewart played French horn in a variety of settings in Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. Now he is casual relief teaching for Mount Clear Secondary College. Ballarat has so much to offer a musician and Bill’s retirement just keeps getting put off.
Trombone – Cassandra’s musical career began at age five with piano lessons, and continued with trombone lessons at age twelve. She attended Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, graduating with a Bachelor of Music (Therapy).
