A Ballarat bakery has snapped up nine medals at the 2022 Australia’s Best Pie & Pastie Competition.

Operated by J & M Catering, Shop 29 Pies won:

• gold – flavoured beef pie (pulled beef, jalapeno and cheese pie)
• silver – vegetarian pie (mango curry pie)
• silver – poultry pie (Thai red chicken curry pie)
• silver – mushroom pie (pulled beef and mushroom pie)
• silver – gourmet pie (pulled beef and pepper pie)
• silver – gourmet pie (antipasto pie)
• silver – gourmet pie (curried sausage pie)
• silver – traditional pastie
• bronze – Cornish pastie

The Baking Association of Australia event is the industry’s only recognised national pie and pastie competition.

This year’s awards were held in Melbourne from 31 May–2 June.

Tucked away at 29 Harold Street, Wendouree, Shop 29 Pies is open 9am-2pm weekdays.
