Top six A-League showdown in Ballarat this February
Ballarat’s second A-League game this season will be a blockbuster when Western United and rivals Brisbane Roar rock Mars Stadium on Sunday 16 February.
Brisbane Roar is coached by one of world football’s most adored former players, the man Liverpool fans call “God”.
Former England international Robbie Fowler is a legend at the Reds, an English Premier League powerhouse. In his first season as a coach in the A-League, he has the Queensland outfit on track for a finals finish.
However, both Western United and Brisbane Roar are eyeing finals finishes this season with both sides hanging around the top six.
And with United defeating Roar 2-0 earlier this season in a highly-charged match in Brisbane, there’s much interest in this return encounter.
For home fans, United has a clutch of superstars, including Greek international Panagiotis Kone and A-League legend Besart Berisha in attack, not to mention former Italian international and Premier League player Alessandro Diamanti.
But watch out for powerful defender Oskar Dillon. The 20-year-old Coffs Harbour talent has been one of the finds of the season.
“Oskar Dillon, he’s been incredible. His rise, only three games in at 20 years old and his last competitive game was in the Queensland NPL in October,” United coach Mark Rudan said after their last game in Newcastle.
“And as for Alessandro Diamanti, I’m sure he’ll be good to go after a week’s break."
The Italian star missed the game due to injury, but the team’s charismatic captain is set to return in Ballarat for what looms as a top six showdown.
Western United will take on Brisbane Roar at Ballarat's Mars Stadium on Sunday 16 February at 4pm (gates open at 3pm) in the 19th round of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.
Game day entertainment will include inflatable fun for kids, face painting, a lounge area with bean bags on the hill, plus player signings and selfies post-match.
Mars Stadium has state-of-the-art facilities that will enable the match to be telecast live on Foxtel.
