Meet Gourmet Traveller’s 2018 Young Winemaker of the Year on April 12 at Melbourne’s Made of Ballarat Pop-Up Shop.

Owen Latta has been described by Different Drop‘s Wade Doolan as “the Ballarat boy taking Australian wine by storm”. He says “Owen is setting the Australian wine industry on fire with a two-pronged attack. First, a classic range of premium Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays and Syrahs under family Eastern Peake label. And second, his wilder stylings pushing the boundaries of the Australian winemaking avant-garde under Latta Vino.”

Owen will be joined at the pop-up shop by Salt Kitchen Charcuterie’s Mick Nunn. Mick’s obsession with European food took him all the way to France to train in whole-carcass butchery and charcuterie. Today, he utilises amazing Western Victorian produce to make fresh sausages, hams, bacons, terrines and dry cured products.

The Made of Ballarat Pop-Up Shop store transcends the everyday shopfront, stimulating the senses and giving people a taste of what they can expect when they visit Ballarat. 

The eclectic showcase of Ballarat products, artisans and experiences is being presented in partnership with Visit Victoria. It’s open daily between 10am and 6pm until April 24.

This is the third of four Meet the Maker experiences at the pop-up shop. The remaining workshop with Paul Ryle (Green Woodsmith) will be held on Thursday, April 18, between 12.30pm and 2pm.
