Get ready for two new tech-savvy experiences at this year’s Ballarat Winter Festival.

The Winteractive Arcade and the Ballarat Activated ArtWalk will use technology such as augmented reality to transform the city into a living canvas.

It will be a case of old meets new at the Winteractive Arcade with:

  • retro gaming and old-school arcade machines;
  • drone racing simulator Drone Legion;
  • a massive multi-player game of Snake;
  • an AR (augmented reality) exhibition;
  • Google’s 3D virtual reality painting tool Tilt Brush; and
  • augmented reality fashion designer Nixi Killick, who has worked with international names such as Lady Gaga, Sia, Kimbra and Hiatus Kaiyote.

The interactive arcade will be held on June 29-30 and July 13-14 at the Ballarat Mining Exchange, 8 Lydiard St Nth, between 11am and 5pm.

Tickets are adult $10, 6-16 years $5 and under 6 free. Click here to book. Or purchase them on the day at the venue.

Meanwhile, the Ballarat Activated ArtWalk will reveal the hidden stories of the city’s streets, laneways and buildings from June 29 until July 28.

Download the Eye Jack app and bring six special CBD artworks to life through your smartphone.

The six artists showcased in this inaugural immersive art experience are Cax One, Demi Gerardi, Dillion Naylor, Margie Balazic, Pauline O’Shannessy-Dowling and Samantha Thompson.

“We’re combining the skills of programmers, artists and animators to explore brand new ways to play and create, providing fun and excitement for the whole family,” Ballarat Mayor Cr Samantha McIntosh said.

Presented by the City of Ballarat, the Ballarat Winter Festival line-up also includes Sovereign Hill’s Winter Wonderlights, a pop-up ice skating rink, Knights of Fire at Kryal Castle, plus much more.
