Grab a rug, throw the esky in the car and head off for a perfect summer picnic at one of Ballarat’s beautiful historic gardens, hidden swimming holes or secluded bush reserves.
The summer of 2020/21 will be remembered as the season of dining al fresco and Ballarat has made it even easier to be part of this.

The Shared Table Picnic
The Shared Table, 317 Learmonth Street, Buninyong
Buninyong chef Dianne Ray has not only put together an exceptional picnic hamper, she has also done the research and chosen a few selected picnic sites in and around the historic village of Buninyong. Scan the QR code on the hamper and her secret sites will appear on your phone. The $130 hamper for two (main picture) includes shitake mushroom palmiers with black garlic tapenade, potted prawns with black sesame crumpet, cold sriracha fried chicken with smoked tartare, and roasted wagyu fillet and potato salad in milk buns plus a salad of pearl barley, smoked almonds and parsley. For dessert, you have all the ingredients to build your own mini pav. Add-ons include wine and cocktails in a can. Order by Thursday each week for weekend pick-up.

Mitchell Harris Wines' Picnic Grazing Box (pictured above) comes filled with charcuterie, cheese, marinated olives, house-made dip, terrine, crackers and condiments, packed ready to eat in the great outdoors. The Olive Grove Antipasto Picnic

Just a three-minute drive from Lake Wendouree, this high-end delicatessen is run by Pete and Ange Marios. On offer is a broad range of cheese, hams, charcuterie and salumi, bread, salads and pastries. Pre-packed picnic hampers are available for $50 (small), $75 (medium) and $100 (large).
