The perfect cup of hot chocolate and where to find it

Visit Ballarat

There’s nothing more warming than sitting fireside with a cup of hot chocolate in hand, especially in winter!

When it comes to the milky goodness, we’re pretty spoilt here in Ballarat.

Not only are we home to the purveyors of the fine cocoa range – Grounded Pleasures – but we’ve got some pretty creative minds who know how to put a spin on the wintry favourite.

We might be a little biased, but we think Grounded Pleasures cocoa is pretty darn amazing!

The flavour alchemist behind the powdered gold, Craig McKenzie, sources it from the best cocoa-growing regions around the world, so you know you’re getting one of the most pure and sumptuous chocolate experiences in every cup.

The good news is, you’re more than likely to be served a cup at one of our local cafes.

It’s also worth noting that Grounded Pleasures is vegan, and that soy and almond milk hot chocolates are a-plenty in Ballarat.

Browse online for your favourite blend or pick up a box at one of our local cafes, including Eclectic Tastes, Fika Coffee BrewersMitchell Harris Wines, and Webster’s Market and Cafe.

You’ll also find it on the shelves at Wilson’s Fruit and Vegetables and Campana’s.

While you’re online why not seek out some inspiration from the Grounded Pleasures recipe collection.

You’ll find easy recipes for decadent double chocolate cookies and brownies, pumpkin and chocolate chunk muffins and, easy chilli chocolate mousse.

Have some fun making your own hot chocolate at The Turret Cafe with their hot chocolate dipper stick.
For something a little different, why not send your tastebuds on a sensory journey and try a hazelnut, chilli, mint, orange or white hot chocolate.

You’ll be served the fluffiest marshmallows with your hot chocolate of choice at Higher Society, and don’t be surprised if those velvety cubes come smothered in melted chocolate.

Prefer your hot chocolate with a dash of coffee (or your coffee with a dash of chocolate)?

Sit down for a mocha at Hydrant Food Hall while you dig into a pastry or two. The kids will also love their babychinos.

So what are you waiting for? Grab your scarf and head to one of these venues for Ballarat’s best hot chocolate.

Across Victoria’s Midwest, we acknowledge that we travel across the ancient landscapes of many First Peoples communities.

These lands have been nurtured and cared for over tens of thousands of years and we respect the work of Traditional Custodians for their ongoing care and protection.

We recognise the past injustices against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in this country. As our knowledge grows, we hope that we can learn from their resilience and creativity that has guided them for over 60,000 years.

As we invite people to visit and explore Victoria’s Midwest, we ask that alongside us, you also grow to respect the stories, living culture and connection to Country of the Ancestors and Elders of our First Peoples.
