Celebrate the nation's top brews at the Ballarat Beer Festival

Australia's most popular regional beer festival returns to Ballarat this February for its ninth consecutive year.

The Ballarat Beer Festival will be held on Saturday 15 February at North Gardens from 11.30am until 8pm.

It will showcase Australia's best independent craft brewers, along with regional wineries.

“This is a day to celebrate beer, but not just any beer – locally made and crafted beer by independent brewers,” festival director Ric Dexter said.

"I always say there is a beer for everyone at the Ballarat Beer Festival.”

Take in over 20,000 square metres of lakeside action with beer education classes, blind tastings, trivia games and the popular brewers sack race.

Local and Australian bands will provide the soundtrack to the day, with an extensive range of street food offerings filling hungry bellies.

"The main reason so many people are drawn to the Ballarat Beer Festival is for its huge variety of craft beers and its undeniably great atmosphere," Ric said.

“People love the fun and relaxed environment.''

Ric said one of the key factors that separated the festival from its peers was the fact it's family-friendly.

"We offer activities for the kids such as games like giant jenga, painting and even a petting zoo, and you can tell from their faces they just love it," he said.

The festivities will kick off with the popular Ballarat Beer Festival Degustation Dinner on Friday 14 February at Federation University's Prospects restaurant

Each of the five courses will be expertly matched with two craft beers (wine also available).

Award‐winning celebrity chef Sean Donovan will work with the university's apprentice chefs to serve up the impressive spread.

The dinner will be hosted by respected beer enthusiasts and judges Professor Pilsner and Beer Diva.

“These two are extremely entertaining,'' Ric said.

“In addition to their knowledge and passion for craft beers, they were just born to entertain and make people laugh."
