1. Australian Jazz Convention (AJC)
December 26 to 31
The 72nd AJC will present premium Australian jazz across Ballarat’s iconic venues. With gigs spread out along the historic quarter of the city, this annual event attracts thousands of jazz enthusiasts from near and far in celebration of one of the most popular musical genres.
2. Summer Sundays
January 7, 14, 21
Enjoy summer’s splendour at the City of Ballarat’s Summer Sundays event series. Pack a picnic and enjoy free live music from some of the country’s best-loved talent, or enjoy a bite to eat from one of the food and beverage trucks onsite. A great way to relax and soak up the stunning surrounds of the botanical gardens.
3. Organs of the Goldfields
January 12 to 21
This annual event celebrates fine music from classical artists the country over. Held in the city’s historic venues, the nine-day event features more than 20 recitals on a range of instruments including organ, strings, brass, woodwind and voice.
4. Ballarat Beer Festival
Ballarat will be transformed into a melting pot of boutique beer, gourmet food and world-class entertainment for the Ballarat Beer Festival. Combining Australia’s best craft brews with fine food and quality entertainment, the one-day event creates an atmosphere that can be enjoyed by beer experts, summer festival lovers and families alike.
5. Red Hot Summer Tour
Returning over the Australia Day long weekend, this year’s concert features the ultimate rock n’ roll-packed lineup including rock legendette Suzi Quatro as well as iconic rock bands The Angels, Baby Animals, The Screaming Jets, Moving Pictures and Chocolate Starfish.
6. Rainbow Serpent Festival
January 27 to 30
An internationally recognised, multifaceted weekend of dance, colour, and expression, people travel from all over the world to Lexton to experience one of the most unique outdoor festivals in the southern hemisphere. Attracting more than 15,000 people, Rainbow Serpent is a celebration of electronic music, art, performance, spiritual education, relaxation and healing. 7. Ballarat Backyard Tasters
February 16, 23
Ballarat Backyard Tasters offers free entertainment, artistry and fabulous food and drink on two Friday evenings in February. Relax into the weekend with a showcase of live music performances, and catch up with the latest Backspace Gallery exhibition. A perfect summer night of art and culture.
8. Ballarat Rockabilly Festival
February 8 to 11
Watch as thousands of rockabilly fans descend upon Ballarat for the annual Ballarat Beat Rockabilly Festival. Taking over the CBD streets, the festival is an electric spectacle, with international music acts spilling from bars and balconies, hundreds of glamorous retro guys and gals flocking into town, parades of classic cars and hot rods, unique market stalls and more. A chance to lose yourself in the colour and excitement of the 1950s rock n’ roll days!
