With the heat of the summer comes the fervent desire to cool off. Here are six options that are sure to take you into the realms of summer serenity.
If you’re yet to visit Ballarat’s much-loved Il Piccolo Gelato, then you haven’t lived yet. With a range of indulgent gourmet flavours including dairy free sorbets as well as gluten-free options, this place will have you asking for all the scoops. For something a little more classic but with all the sugary trimmings, Cold Rock will most definitely suffice.
Ballarat’s local swimming pools and free outdoor water parks are open all summer long and great for the whole family or for a solo swim. For a more nature-driven adventure, head to Lake Esmond for a dip or venture a little further out to Creswick’s St George’s Lake.
Lucky Ballarat is the budding craft beer capital of Australia, because it means there are several local watering holes to cool you right off. Whether it’s an ale at Red Duck Brewery, your favourite pint at The Mallow, or a local brew from Hop Temple, there’s no doubt the liquid gold is available in abundance.
We’re quite lucky to live in the 21st century, so all of our shopping centres are graced with the technology that is air-conditioning! Head to the likes of Central Square, Bridge Mall or Stockland Wendouree and indulge in some retail therapy while exploring the many specialty stores on offer.
There’s no question – shopping makes you hungry. Find your spot in one of Ballarat’s (air-conditioned) cafes and restaurants and savour some sweet and/or savoury treats – think cooling milkshakes, freakshakes, iced coffees or just some indulgent delights. Summer is hard work. You deserve it.
Art galleries – they have to be temperature controlled because of the treasures that adorn their walls. Take advantage of the summer season to venture out to some of Ballarat’s stunning galleries including the Art Gallery of Ballarat, The Lost Ones, Post Office Gallery, and Gallery on Sturt. You’ll be in awe at the works that await (and the cool comfort these spaces provide).
