17 Nov 2018 TO 22 Dec 2018

First Victorian solo exhibition of recent works by artist Deny Christian. Christian has had an extraordinary artistic career spanning more than four decades. A twice honoured exhibitor in the Portia Geach National Prize for Portraiture (1975 and 1976); winner of the David Berry Portrait Prize (2000) and winner of the Packer’s Prize of the Archibald Prize, for her beautiful portrait of the actor Gary McDonald (1999), and the painter of numerous celebrity and official portraits – from Kate Ceberano and Derek Llewellyn Jones to Lara Giddings the Former Governor of Tasmania.

Supremely well versed in the art of portraiture and still life, Christian works in the classical tradition and creates both beautiful and incredibly naturalistic artworks. She believes in the artistic movement known as Passionism. Hallmarks of this style are a classical elegance, grace and a devotion to the traditions of European painting that were established during the Italian Renaissance.
